I think I should be doing these newsletter/field reports more often right now. I really enjoyed writing the last one.
So, again, I’d like to check in with you on what you want in your inbox and how often.
How frequently would you like to see me in your inbox as we move into the autumn months? I’ll be talking about book stuff, publishing stuff, library stuff, and just stuff, in general.
LIVING MY BARBIE DREAM LIFE
INSOMNIA.
I’ve developed insomnia over the past two years. Anyone who deals with this in any capacity knows how hard it can be to keep time and space straight.
I’ve had a great couple of weeks, and I want to thank anyone here, publicly and somewhat anonymous(e)ly, for supporting me this last little stint. It’s been a rough ride, but I’m better for it.
HAPPY BRAINS.
Here are a few things that are making my specific brain happy right now:
📚 Book: The Taurus Witch [Bookshop.org] | [Amazon]1
📺 Show: Ted Lasso!
✨ Inspiration: The (Dumb) Barbie (Dumb) Phone2
🎨 Activity/Craft: Collage!
👀 Looking forward to: Mystery dates around Winnipeg!
DREAM CAREER/JOB/VOCATION
I’m taking a Success course created by Wharton and hosted on Coursera.com. For $49/mo, I highly recommend the service on that platform if you’re looking to grow your understanding of yourself and what you want… Or just grow your professional skills. $49/mo seems reasonable compared to, idk, an MBA?
Anyway, I’d Google it, if I were you.
It’s the reason I am feeling so centered in my big life changes re: reworking my business (digital business management freelancing) and going back to school for a passion career (public librarianship).
DREAM HOUSE
I mentioned in my last newsletter that we have found stability by signing a long-term lease in a great spot in a great neighborhood. Now comes the fun part…
DREAM CAR
I’ve been rethinking what it means to have a car. When I’m in Winnipeg, I don’t have one and when I’m in Indy, I do but we’re a one-car household because we are both remote workers. And, as I mentioned above, we’ll be in a great neighborhood soon enough so we won’t need one, necessarily, but…
I have a scholarship/independent research project that I’m going to try to make happen during my MLIS that requires a lot of regional car travel. I’d love to know your sustainable/eco-friendly car thoughts in the comments to help me sort out my mind about being a two-car household again. <3
HAVING YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE CAN BE HARD.
But, I’m feeling much better than when I sent out my last newsletter.
THANK YOU FOR READING.
Last week, I asked if you’d like me to implement a twice-monthly “tea time” event where we share a virtual space (either here or possibly Discord). Access to this event would be the lowest-tier paid subscription fee that Substack recommends.
What days/times work for you?
Affiliate marketing links. Bookshop.org purchases support https://indyreads.org/. Amazon links support my work.
This is NOT an affiliate link, but I’d love for it to be one day. 🤩
